"December 29, 2008 - Valve will officially reveal downloadable content for Left 4 Dead, its November-released zombie shooter, "shortly." During a video podcast with Kotaku (via Shacknews), one of the game's writers, Chet Faliszek, confirmed that Valve is working on new scenarios, "What we want to do is just deliver more content you can play at this point." Faliszek also revealed that Valve has plans on incorporating the Versus mode to the Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns. Currently, only Blood Harvest and No Mercy are playable in Versus. In addition, the game writer said that, unlike Team Fortress 2 updates, Valve plans on releasing Left 4 Dead DLC for the Xbox 360 and PC platforms at the same time. During the podcast, which was recorded on December 15, Faliszek speculated that the game's DLC announcement may come before Christmas. That, however, did not happen. Faliszek did state that announcement delays may happen as a result of the company's press guys going on vacation. However, he added, "We'll have an announcement shortly, I don't know exactly when." Typically, PC versions of Valve releases receive free updates through Steam, the company's popular digital-distribution service, but no official pricing plans for either PC or Xbox 360 platforms have been announced. IGN has attempted to reach Valve for additional DLC details.:

"ComingSoon chatted with director DJ Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) about the status of the "Y: The Last Man" adaptation which has been in development for years. "Yeah, it's been a while," said Caruso. "I think it's one of those that the source material is fantastic stuff, it's great, but it's a tough one to lick into getting into a screenplay. I've tried to feel like it's a trilogy of movies and I think everyone sort of agrees, but at the same time, just getting the first movie right and getting the right beats and knowing what to put in, it's been really tough. You have great minds like David Goyer and you've got Carl Ellsworth and you've got Brian K. Vaughn, and I'm working with them to just kind of crack it and get it down. And we're almost there. I know it's a slow process, but I think eventually we'll get it. We're going to get it and we'll get it right, but we had a pretty good breakthrough a couple weeks ago in the final act, and hopefully we'll get there." Unlike many comic books, "Y: The Last Man" actually has an ending, which gives Caruso a direction to go into. But he won't start thinking about future installments quite yet. "We're not really outlining [future installments] but you know, it's nice when you know where it ends," he said. "It actually thematically helps you as a filmmaker and a storyteller, if you then treat it as one piece of work then you kind of know where you end and what the theme of the piece is now. It really helped with seeing closure and what is this all about. I thought the ending was really good and really compelling, but if you take the first movie and then you (put) Yorick into that ending, I think then it doesn't feel like you can accomplish that in one movie. You can't accomplish in that one movie." At this point, Caruso would like to do another movie before tackling "Y: The Last Man." "I have not found a movie that's there yet," he explained. "I just think if we turn in "Y" after the holiday and it came in and got going quick then it would be up for sure. I'm open to it, but I need to eventually make a living.""

"The Japanese trailer for the upcoming "Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li" has appeared on the official site. Unfortunately, it is not English and does not contain English subtitles, but with over a minute of scenes it should give you a good idea of what to expect. The new movie is based on the popular Capcom's video game franchise, in which female fighter Chun-Li embarks on a quest for justice. "Street Fighter" is directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, the man behind such movies as "Romeo Must Die," "Exit Wounds," "Cradle 2 the Grave" and "Doom." At this point, his new film is scheduled to hit theaters on February 27th, 2009."

"The trailer for the upcoming animated film "9" has been released, featuring a voice cast comprised of Elijah Wood, John C Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau and Christopher Plummer. Plot: When 9 (Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them. The movie is written and directed by Shane Acker and is based on Acker's short film that won the gold medal at the student Academy Awards and animated film honors at the 2005 Comic-Con." I think this looks pretty freaking awesome.

"It was recently announced by creator Mitchell Hurwitz and producer/narrator Ron Howard that they are both working on an "Arrested Development" movie. But even though that's great news, there are still lots of hurdles ahead, like getting back the now-famous cast. Collider chatted with Hurwitz, who said that he already has eight ouf of the nine actors on board, which means that one person stands between the raging fans and their highly-anticipated movie. So who could that one person be? The site asked Hurwitz about a rumor that either Will Arnett or Michael Cera are the ones holding out. Hurwitz replied: "I don't want to talk about who is holding out right now because we might still work that out and I don't want to pressure anyone through the press. Although I will say that Will Arnett is gung-ho, so there's a big clue!" So Michael Cera is the culprit, but that comes as no surprise since fans have accused him of playing the George Michael character in every single movie he has ever done. Out of fear of typecasting, Cera might refuse to come back to the series that made him famous. " What a little bitch, he just needs to sign up and quit bitching about being George Michael.

"Last we heard, the upcoming "The Thing" sequel is in fact a prequel with events leading up to the 1982 John Carpenter film. Now, Bloody-Disgusting was able to get the working plot details from the new movie. "In the screenplay by Ronald D. Moore, the prequel takes place from the Norwegian camps point of view. An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog. The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase. During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realize that an alien life-form with the ability to take over bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over." The original movie, which stars Kurt Russell, revolves around a group of scientists in the Antarctic who are confronted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of the people that it kills." This scares me, I swear if someone else screws with another movie I love I may go on a slight killing spree. And I love the original The Thing, it's my second favorite movie.

Cold tidings for Caspian this morning, as Walt Disney Studios announced that they will not be co-producing and co-financing the adaptation of CS Lewis' The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the third of the Narnia films. This leaves Walden Media, the other big force behind the films, to find another partner if the film is indeed to hit screens in 2010.
Disney cited "budgetary and logistical" reasons for the move, which probably translates as "it's very expensive, and the last one didn't do so brilliantly at the box office". Prince Caspian made a hair under $420 million at the worldwide box office, compared to $745 million for its predecessor The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
Prince Caspian also cost in the region of $200 million, and given that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader would present more logistical difficulties given its sea-borne nature, the studio presumably thought it was a bit of a gamble - and the recent failure of other non-Potter kids fantasy films like The Golden Compass may further have put the wind up them. Disney's withdrawal also casts doubt on the involvement of talent like planned director Michael Apted and screenwriter Steven Knight.
But all may not be lost! Walden Media works closely with Fox on most of its productions, so it may yet persuade Fox to step in. Watch this space for further news.

"Earlier this month "Iron Man 2" writer Justin Theroux revealed that the villain for the upcoming sequel will be announced during next year's Comic-Con. But thanks to Entertainment Weekly's sources, we don't have to wait that long. EW is reporting that John Cho (Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle) has been cast as the Mandarin in "Iron Man 2" and Tommy Chong (Up in Smoke) is being eyed to play the Mandarin's father, who claims to be the real genius responsible for the success of Howard Stark, Tony's dad. And if you remember from before, Howard Stark is being rumored to be played by Tim Robbins. These are obviously rumors, which means that they may be right or may be wrong. I am leaning toward the latter. Do you think that John Cho would be right for the Mandarin role?"

"Several months back, Seth Rogen announced that he will star in the upcoming "The Green Hornet" movie and just couldn't wait to tell the fans that the project attracted Stephen Chow to star as Kato. Then Rogen was pleased to reveal that Chow (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle) agreed to direct the film as well. Recently, Chow decided to not direct, but just stay on as an actor. "If I direct 'The Green Hornet,' the superhero comedy will have to be delayed for two years," he said. "The timing might not be right for a superhero comedy in two years. And I want to make a movie based on an original idea." And now, the Associated Press is reporting that Chow is not so sure about acting in "The Green Hornet" either. He said that it all depends on his schedule. What this means for the already-announced release date of June 25th, 2010 is anyone's guess. " This would suck, lets cross our fingers that he does not drop it.

Some sad news to report this morning
Robert Mulligan, the Oscar-nominated director of To Kill A Mockingbird, has died of heart disease at his home in Connecticut aged 83.
The Bronx-born director began his career in the fast-evolving world of live TV working at CBS in the so-called Golden Age of Television of the early 50s. In New York he worked alongside young TV directors like George Roy Hill, Sydney Pollack, Robert Altman and John Frankenheimer, before launching his filmmaking career with 1957 baseball drama Fear Strikes Out.
Mulligan went on to direct more than 20 films, but will be best remembered for his 1963 screen adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer-winning novel To Kill A Mockingbird. Coaxing arguably Gregory Peck’s finest performance from him as attorney Atticus Finch, Mulligan delivered an eloquent, humanist assault on the prejudices of the Deep South, proving to be the perfect choice to choice to bring Lee’s masterpiece to the screen.
Mulligan was by nature a diffident man but he stood up to Universal Pictures over the casting of To Kill A Mockingbird, insisting on Peck in preference to the studio’s first choice, Rock Hudson. His conviction was rewarded when Peck won the Best Actor Oscar and he himself was nominated for Best Director, losing out to David Lean for Lawrence Of Arabia.
The director’s final film was 1991's The Man in the Moon, also the film debut of a 15 year-old Reese Witherspoon.

Entertainment Weekly has posted an exclusive clip from the pilot episode, where we see Echo emerging from a recent memory wipe.
Reports of rewrites and altercations from the set have caused some to worry abour Dollhouse but indications are that Whedon had simply been unhappy with the quality of early scripts and halted production to make a few tweaks so that the show would be up to the standard that his hordes of fans demand.

"Rebellion and 2000 AD have announced that a new Judge Dredd movie is currently in development. Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such sci-fi films as "Sunshine" and "28 Weeks Later," will go into production on "Dredd" in 2009. Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said: "We can't give away too many details at this point, but we're looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen." Judge Dredd is a comics character whose strip in the British science fiction anthology 2000 AD is the magazine's longest running. Dredd is a law enforcement officer in a violent city of the future where uniformed Judges combine the powers of police, judge, jury and executioner. He and his fellow Judges are empowered to arrest, sentence and even execute criminals on the spot. "Back in October, it was announced that J Michael Straczynski (Changeling) is penning a long-in-the-works update of the sci-fi classic "Forbidden Planet" for Warner Bros. The project has had several director attached to it throughout the years, including David Twohy (Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick) and James Cameron (Titanic). Cameron was just coming off "Titanic" and was looking to get into another project, but instead decided to leave Hollywood for a while. In fact, the upcoming "Avatar" is his first feature film since "Titanic." Now, IESB is reporting that Cameron is considering "Forbidden Planet" again. There are several other projects that he is attached to, but apparently Warner Bros is pushing for him to tackle "Planet" first. The original film was released in 1956 and told the tale of an expedition sent from Earth to check on a colony of scientists on a far-off planet. They find two members, a man who has found alien technology that doubled his intellect, Dr. Morbius, and his daughter, both of whom have managed to survive an unseen monster roaming the planet. The film is perhaps best known for the character Robbie the Robot."

Geeks across the online world, get ready to punch your keyboards in frustration. Darren Aronofksy might be off the RoboCop remake.
Studio insiders have been whispering for a while now that Darren isn't as keen on the franchise as he once was - now it seems official.
When Aronofsky was asked on The Howard Stern Show how RoboCop was going, he said he was working on the script but he was "not sure" if it was still going to happen. He added "we'll see..."
Which isn't the most enthusiastic response to a question we've ever heard.
Still, there is good news; Aronofsky's boxing drama The Fighter is apparently the project he's most keen on starting work on.

"McDonalds has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," featuring shots of the many historical figures that will come to life. In the new movie, museum exhibits come to life, but this time at the Smithsonian in Washington, where filming included scenes shot at the National Air and Space Museum. The DC setting also filmed at the Lincoln Memorial — where Honest Abe will come to "life." So will General Custer, Albert Einstein and a giant squid that befuddles Ben Stiller's Larry Daley as he searches for his pal museum pieces Octavius and Jedediah, who have been shipped there. "Night at the Museum 2" is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22nd, 2009." I think it looks pretty funny, but so did the last one. The 1st wasn't bad, it just could have been better. I hope this one is.
